How It Started
I created Hearthy Foods because of my mom. For years, she suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure. I remember the day the doctor told her that she had to eliminate the rice, naan, and rotis from her diet and eat more protein. For an Indian mother, these were her life staples. I felt so helpless looking at my mom's face and seeing the sadness in her eyes. I wanted to create products and flours that my mother could use to make her favorite bread, rotis, and other dishes. By eliminating wheat, I began a journey to understand the problems associated with wheat. My mother told me she has been eating wheat since she was a kid, like her parents and grandparents, with no side effects. I realized the mass-produced wheat of today is not the same as the local wheat grown by artisans in my mom's village. This is when I had the idea to start a wellness company that my mother could use to make her favorite bread, rotis, and supplements to improve her health, mobility, and overall well-being. As our diets evolved and health improved, I wanted to share those original flours with the world and create the first-ever all-natural, gluten-free, clean ingredient, halal supplement brand. Although my mother is no longer with us, it was her struggle that inspired me to start the first plant-based flour and halal wellness company.
